Wall-mounted pergola

A wall-mounted pergola fixes to the back of your house and turns the patio outside your door into somewhere you can sit whatever the weather. Both Sunnier louvred pergolas can be wall-mounted, at the same price as freestanding. Here is how a wall-mounted pergola works and what to check before you order.

What is a wall-mounted pergola?

A wall-mounted pergola, sometimes called a pergola attached to the house, is supported by posts on the outer side and fixed to the house wall on the other. It covers the area right outside your back door, kitchen or living room, so stepping outside feels like stepping into another room.

On a Sunnier pergola the roof is made of adjustable aluminium louvres. Open them for light and air, angle them for shade, or close them when it rains. When fully closed, the roof is waterproof, and rainwater runs into the integrated gutters and down through the posts.

Both models, either mount, one price

Choose "Wall-mounted" in the Mount option on either product page. The price is the same as freestanding, and the same in every finish.

Why wall-mount your pergola?

  • Cover right outside the door. Step out of the kitchen or living room without stepping into the rain.
  • Fewer posts on the patio. The house wall takes the place of the posts on one side.
  • Light where you want it. Open the louvres to let daylight reach the house, or close them for shade on a hot afternoon.
  • Evenings outside. Optional perimeter LED lighting around the frame is available on both models, so the space keeps working after dark.

What to check before you order

Height against the house

Measure from the patio to the bottom of any first-floor windows, the gutter and anything else on the wall. The standard height is 2,350 mm to the underside of the beam, and the beam is 150 mm deep. On Classic you can set a custom height from 2,100 to 2,800 mm to fit under a low window or to give more headroom.

The wall

The wall needs to be sound and suitable for fixing a heavy structure. If you're not sure what your wall is made of or whether it's suitable, ask a builder or the installer to look before you order.

Doors, windows and drains

Check where doors and windows open, where drains and downpipes run, and where the posts will stand. Rainwater leaves through the posts at the base, so plan where it will go from there.

Power for Classic

Classic needs a 220 to 230V supply for the motor and LED. We recommend a qualified electrician for the wiring.

Planning permission

A structure fixed to the house can be treated differently from a freestanding one under planning rules. Read our planning permission guide and check with your local planning authority before you start.

Freestanding or wall-mounted?

Choose wall-mounted if you want cover right outside the house. Choose freestanding if your best spot gets the evening sun at the end of the garden or if your wall isn't suitable. Both cost the same. Our pergola sizes guide compares every size, and our louvred pergola range shows both models.

Putting it up

Both models are designed for DIY assembly. Essential typically takes experienced DIYers about 3 to 5 hours for standard sizes, and Classic typically takes 2 to 3 people a day. If you'd rather not do it yourself, we can introduce you to an independent installation partner, who quotes separately (typically from £580 for Essential or £660 for Classic, inc VAT). See pergola installation.
