Large pergolas
Got a big garden to cover? Pergola Classic comes in sizes up to 4 × 6 m, with an electric louvre roof and a frame that spans up to 5 to 6 m depending on size. Optional perimeter LED lighting around the frame is available on both models. Here is what a large Sunnier louvred pergola looks like, what it costs and how to plan one.
Our largest sizes
| Size | Covered area | Price | Snow load |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 × 6 m | 18 m² | £9,899 | 320 kg/m² |

| 4 × 6 m | 24 m² | £11,899 | 160 kg/m² |
All are Pergola Classic sizes, at the current price on the product page, with a 110 km/h wind rating (depending on configuration). The price is the same in every finish and for freestanding or wall-mounted. For a manual roof, the largest Pergola Essential is 3 × 5 m, from £7,202.
Built to span a large space
Large pergolas need a strong frame. Every Sunnier pergola has 135 × 135 mm powder-coated aluminium posts on 162 × 162 mm base plates, and the Classic frame spans up to 5 to 6 m unsupported, depending on the size you choose.
Snow load ratings vary by width. The 3 m wide Classic sizes are rated to 320 kg/m², the 3.5 m sizes to 200 kg/m² and the 4 m sizes to 160 kg/m². In heavy snow, tilt the louvres towards vertical to keep the load off the roof.
Made to measure, or made to order?
Sunnier pergolas come in a standard size grid rather than being cut to any measurement. That keeps the price clear and on the website, and every pergola is still made to order after you buy, in your chosen size, finish and mount. On Classic you can also set a custom height anywhere from 2,100 to 2,800 mm, for £250, so the roof height suits your house and garden.

Planning a large pergola
- Mark out the footprint. A freestanding 4 × 5 m Classic measures 4,025 × 5,045 mm across the outside of the posts. Our pergola sizes guide has set-out measurements for other sizes.
- Plan the base. The posts fix to concrete, stone, timber decking or prepared foundations, with suitable fixings. Where point foundations are used, the recommended size is 600 × 600 × 800 mm.
- Plan the power. Classic needs a 220 to 230V supply for the motor and LED converter. The motor cable is about 3 m long and runs inside a post. We recommend a qualified electrician for the wiring.
- Check the rules. Larger structures are more likely to need planning permission, especially near a boundary. Read our planning permission guide and check with your local planning authority.
- Decide who puts it up. Classic is designed for DIY assembly and typically takes 2 to 3 people a day, varying with size. Or we can introduce you to an independent installation partner, who quotes separately, typically from £660 inc VAT. Larger sizes and extras can change the quote.
Make it a room outside
On a large pergola, side screens make a real difference. Choose manual or solar screens by side, size and colour, to block low sun or wind on the sides that need it. Add the optional 3 kW heater for cooler evenings, and optional perimeter LED lighting around the frame keeps the space working after dark.
