Pergola installation

There are two ways to put up a Sunnier pergola: do it yourself, or have an independent installer do it for you. This guide covers both, what to prepare, and what installation typically costs.

Option 1: assemble it yourself

Both Sunnier models are designed for DIY assembly, with clear instructions and pre-assembled components.

  • Pergola Essential: experienced DIYers typically assemble standard sizes in about 3 to 5 hours. The hand crank roof needs no electrician.
  • Pergola Classic: typically one day with 2 to 3 people, depending on size and experience. The motor and LED need a 220 to 230V supply, and we recommend a qualified electrician for the connection.

Tools you'll need

A ladder, tape measure, level, power drill, silicone and suitable mounting bolts for your surface. Allen keys (sizes 4 and 5) are supplied, and concrete anchor screws (for example 7.5 × 100 mm) are included in the kit. Check they suit your surface.

Option 2: use an independent installer

If you'd rather not assemble it yourself, choose "Request an installer quote" when you configure your pergola. We'll introduce you to our independent installation partner. Here is how it works.

  1. Request an introduction when you order. Nothing is added to your Sunnier order.
  2. The partner contacts you to talk through your requirements.
  3. They send their own quote and terms.
  4. If you accept, they assemble and position the pergola to the agreed scope.
  5. On completion, they carry out basic operating checks and explain the main controls, under their own workmanship warranty.

Installation is not sold or charged by Sunnier. Pricing, scheduling, workmanship and warranties for the installation are between you and the installation partner. Sunnier is still here for any questions about the pergola itself. Full terms are on our Professional Installation page.

What does pergola installation cost?

Typical starting prices from our installation partner, inc VAT:

Model Typical installation from
Pergola Essential £580
Pergola Classic £660

The partner confirms the final quote, which may vary with size, extras, site conditions and travel over 20 miles from the nearest installer. For the full cost of a pergola, including the base and electrics, see our louvred pergola cost guide.

What's normally included, and what isn't

Normally included: assembly of the supplied pergola, positioning and ordinary fixing to suit the agreed site, and basic checks of the louvre drive and controls.

Usually not included: foundations, paving or decking; electrical supply work beyond connecting the supplied motor where the supply is already prepared; planning permission or landlord consent; and removing existing structures.

Getting your site ready

The base

A pergola is a substantial structure and needs a suitable surface and fixing. Sunnier pergolas can be fixed to concrete, stone, timber decking or prepared foundations, with suitable fixings. Where point foundations are used, the recommended size is 600 × 600 × 800 mm. The look of a patio doesn't always show what's underneath, so if you're not sure your surface is suitable, ask before installation day.

The power (Classic only)

Classic needs a 220 to 230V supply for the motor and LED converter. The motor cable is about 3 m long and runs inside a post. Arrange the supply with a qualified electrician before installation.

On the day

  • Clear safe access from where the packages are stored to where the pergola will go.
  • Move garden furniture, planters and anything else out of the working area.
  • Make sure the base or foundations are finished.
  • Tell the installer about underground services, drains, cables or fragile surfaces.
  • Arrange any permissions you need from a landlord, freeholder or the local authority.
  • Keep children and pets away from the work.

Photos of the area, the access route and nearby walls help the installer spot anything obvious before they arrive. Installation is outdoor work, so high winds, heavy rain or ice can mean rearranging the appointment.

Timing with delivery

Delivery and installation are separate. Your pergola is made to order and delivered in around 4 to 6 weeks, kerbside or to a safe unloading point. Leave time after delivery to check you have every package before the installation appointment. See Delivery and installation.

Where installation is available

Independent installers cover England, Scotland and Wales. Availability depends on location, access, product type and site suitability. Ring us free on 0808 168 3131 to check your postcode, or browse the louvred pergola range.
